Aluminum Flakes
With aluminum flakes, it’s all about the high surface to weight ratio. With a thickness of 25 microns and length and width dimensions 600 or 1000 × 1000 microns chemical reactions are more predictable.
Aluminum flakes are safer than aluminum powders. They are rated as non-hazardous to handle. See the “Shape Makes A Difference” article. That’s where Transmet’s Aluminum Flakes are a game changer. With Transmet, you can ensure that each aluminum flake comes in the correct dimensions to provide stability for every project.
With a platelet-like shape, these aluminum flakes are sturdy despite being the same thickness as aluminum foil. Transform your chemical process with our industry-best Aluminum Flakes.
How We Produce Aluminum Flakes
Producing aluminum flakes is a delicate process. At Transmet, we have tons of experience doing this successfully. We have produced north of 50,000,000 pounds of rapidly solidified products making us the pre-eminent producer in the world. We also produce other aluminum alloys upon request.

Aluminum Flakes Product Specifications
Transmet’s aluminum flakes come in two varieties or shapes: rectangular (K-101) flakes and square (K-102) flakes. Although they have a similar thickness, the square flakes are nearly twice as long and come in a larger standard package size.

FAQs
Can Transmet aluminum flake replace aluminum powder?
Yes, our flakes can replace powder. Our flakes have the surface area of fine powder yet are much safer due to the mass of each flake. We have several companies who replaced aluminum powder with our flake and reported faster reaction time and a safer work environment.
What are the benefits of aluminum flake over aluminum power?
Flake benefits include safe handling and usage and a very uniform shape. In a chemical process flake dissolves as a flat sheet; meaning the surface area stays constant while dissolving unlike a powder that is more spherical so as it dissolves the surface area decreases and the reaction rate slows.
Can Transmet aluminum flakes be made in different sizes and thicknesses?
Yes. There are too many possibilities to list. Please contact Transmet to discuss with one of our experts.
Can Aluminum flake be added to thermoplastics?
Yes. Transmet flakes are used in plastics for EMI/RFI shielding and to enhance thermal conductivity of many plastic compounds. The thinner flakes mean fewer pounds are required to get the needed results.
Can aluminum flake be used for reflective roofing?
Yes. Transmet aluminum flakes are used in cool roofing programs. In many cases the flakes are applied to the top of the roof and adhered by the asphalt. The reflectivity of the flake protects the roof from ultraviolet rays and keeps the roof cooler thus saving energy. Aluminum flake can increase the reflectivity of a roof surface to about 80%.
Will Aluminum flake ‘float’ in certain media?
Yes. Transmet flake will float. This is not only due to the bulk density of the flake but also the buoyancy of each flake along with the wetting properties.
Is aluminum flake hazardous?
Aluminum flakes are safe when properly handled. While the surface area is as high as powder, the mass of each flake makes it much safer.
Is aluminum flake known by different names?
Yes. Transmet aluminum flakes are also known as aluminum chips, granular aluminum, high surface aluminum particles and aluminum particulates.
