Transmet Welcomes OSU Export Intern Josh BeardMay 29 2014, by News & Events in
Transmet is once again utilizing the Ohio Export Internship Program, in collaboration with the Ohio Development Services Agency and The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. The program was launched in 2012 to educate business students on the fundamentals of exporting and to help small- to medium-sized companies in Ohio increase their global sales.
In the first two years of the program, 28 matches of students and companies were created, resulting in more than $7.7 million in expected global sales and three full-time job offers. The interns come in with the knowledge of about a dozen industry contacts who lecture throughout the program’s spring-semester training class, then provide their counsel or resources to the interns during the summer.
This year, the program accepted 32 out of 110 applicants. One of those applicants is Josh Beard, who will be working with Transmet through August. Josh is specializing in Marketing at the Fisher College of Business with a minor in Entrepreneurship, and will graduate in December.
Transmet currently exports to Canada, the Netherlands, Spain and South America. Josh will focus on expansion into new markets by conducting market research focusing on the location of automobile assembly plants. When potential customers are identified, Josh will research landed costs and logistics options for market entry. Josh will also use his Marketing specialization to classify existing potential customers and assist in Transmet’s domestic marketing efforts.
On May 23rd, 2014 Josh assisted with his first export order to Guadalajara, Mexico. Josh has also quoted customers in India and Australia.
