A Unique Aluminum Casting

Walter Tschinkel is an entomologist and former professor of Biological Science at Florida State University. He has devised an unusual and striking way to study ant colonies. He pours molten aluminum in them. After the aluminum cools the excavation begins and the resulting casting is pretty amazing.

This seems a little cruel but Fire Ants are an invasive species in the US and millions are already being spent to eradicate them.

Maybe Transmet’s cast aluminum or cast zinc shot would work well cleaning up these castings?
